DermaFrac (Skin Infusions)
What is Dermafrac?
DermaFrac is a dermal microneedling (skin needling) machine that offers simultaneous delivery of infused ingredients to nourish and treat your skin. As the highly potent solutions penetrate the skin, it makes the treatment a quick and effective treatment with minimal downtime.
DermaFrac treatment is suitable for many skin types and can improve the appearance of skin conditions such as:
- Acne scarring
- Skin dehydration
- Superficial wrinkles and fine lines
- Uneven skin tone, sun damaged skin and pigmentation
The DermaFrac machine takes microneedling to a whole new level.
How does DermaFrac work?
By combining precisely calibrated needle penetration and unprecedented infusion capability, DermaFrac creates micro channels to the dermal junction while simultaneously infusing topical serums to this all-important tissue layer. The DermaFrac system uses a unique combination of technologies to enable an improved microneedling procedure along with immediate infusion of a powerful active serum.
The precision-controlled DermaFrac hand piece pulls the skin under vacuum into contact with hundreds of microneedles that penetrate through the epidermis and into the upper dermis (the papillary layer). The vacuum permits an all-important even penetration to the full depth of the needle and can be adjusted to make the treatment deeper, ensuring the active serum reaches deeper into the skin.
DermaFrac microneedles create the pathways for introducing the infusion serum into the skin.
Dermafrac skin renewal process reveals the new, living skin cells that are soft, smooth & receptive to nutrients. This procedure will also stimulate new collagen and elastin production thus improving fine lines and texture.
The depth of needles on the DermaFrac hand piece has been carefully selected so that the channels are created just below the dermal-epidermal junction and just above capillaries and nerve endings. This prevents any bleeding or discomfort as usually associated with needling procedures.
DermaFrac treatment is ideal for many skin types and skin concerns. DermaFrac is usually performed every 4-6 weeks for a series of 4 treatments based on the condition and concern of the skin. DermaFrac is also a suitable treatment to perform 1-2 weeks prior to any major event to freshen up and rejuvenate the skin. Every clients’ skin condition and goals are different, therefore results may vary.

What serums are available with the DermaFrac?
There are four different serums available for DermaFrac treatments:
Clarify
The Clarify solution features two key active ingredients: Salicylic acid and Lactic acid. Salicylic acid opens clogged pores and neutralises bacteria within the pores. It reduces pore congestion and breakouts on skin. Lactic acid, is part of the Alpha Hydroxy Acid family, and exfoliates the outer layer of skin and increases collagen production to minimise fine lines and wrinkles, and reduces blackheads and whiteheads. The Clarify solution is ideal for acne, acne scarring and problematic skin types. It helps to visibly reduce acne, improve the appearance of pores, reduce redness and reduce acne scars. This skincare guide has more information on how to combat acne scarring.
Hydrate
The Hydrate solution uses Hyaluronic acid with a patented technology called HylaSponge to form a fully hydrated layer that helps guarantee that hydration is delivered into deeper layers of skin. It also delivers intense hydration to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The Hydrate solution is ideal for dry or dehydrated skin types, and results in immediate skin firmness. For more information, read more on the benefits of Hyaluronic acid.
Rejuvenate
The Rejuvenate solution has five active ingredients that stimulate fibroblast and collagen production in the skin. They also help relax muscles to prevent wrinkling from repeated muscle movement. The Rejuvenate solution is ideal for sun damaged skin, general ageing concerns, wrinkles and fine lines. It also helps visibly reduce the appearance of dark eye bags, reduce pigmentation and improves skin tone. For more information, read our guide on treating pigmentation.
Lighten
The Lighten solution utilises Kojic acid to lighten skin by suppressing melanocyte activity and pigmentation. It also has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. It is ideal for people with pigmentation and skin discolouration concerns. It also helps visibly reduce pigmentation and improves skin tone and skin clarity.

Some very sensitive skin types may not be able to tolerate the components of DermaFrac treatment, and an alternative treatment may be recommended for you.

During your consultation, your practitioner will discuss your treatment goals and any skin sensitivities you may experience, and tailor a treatment plan to target your concerns.

- Severe, active acne
- Broken, inflamed skin
- Taken Roaccutane or other acne medications, in the past 6 months

What to expect in your consultation
A thorough consultation, initial photographs to track your progress and facial cleanse.
Your practitioner assesses your skin including taking a complete history and current skincare product regime review.
Your face will be cleansed for deep analysis of your skin using touch, natural light assessment and using a wood lamp or VISIA Skin Analysis scan to reveal conditions hidden to the naked eye.
The areas of your skin that will be assessed include, but are not limited to, texture, tone, pores, pigmentation, oiliness, breakouts, acne, congestion, dryness, redness, ageing, volume, thickened skin, dehydration, dark spots, sun damage and more.
Your practitioner will identify your concerns and causes. They will tailor an individual treatment plan to suit your needs which can include at home skin treatment regimes, in clinic treatment, plans and pricing breakdowns in a take home quote.
How to prepare for DermaFrac
Your practitioner will discuss how to prepare for DermaFrac treatment during your consultation, as this may vary for each patient depending on their skin condition and concerns. Generally, it is recommended to avoid using any exfoliating products or active ingredient skincare products, 3 days prior the treatment. This includes avoiding products that have Retinol, Lactic acid, Salicylic acid and Glycolic acid. Your practitioner can confirm whether there are any specific products that you should avoid. It is also recommended to use sun protection daily and avoid prolonged sun exposure.
What to expect during DermaFrac treatment
The microdermabrasion and fruit enzyme mask is comfortable, but you will experience a light tugging sensation on the skin. The DermaFrac needling portion of the treatment will vary from person to person based on the tolerance, the needle depth and serum selected. A slight scratching sensation can be felt particularly over sensitive areas which may feel like a pulling sensation with a slight scratch.
Once the treatment is over, there can be a warmth felt to the skin for up to 24 hours accompanied by some redness that will gradually fade over 12 to 24 hours. Dry skin and flaking is possible for up to 4-5 days post treatment with the skin to be fully healed with a fresh glow by 7 days. After this period you may resume any active skincare such as Vitamin A, AHA’s and BHA’s. Strict sun avoidance and use of sunscreen is a must to protect the new skin from damage and possible adverse reactions.
DermaFrac treatment aftercare
After DermaFrac treatment, it’s important to continue using sun protection everyday and avoid prolonged sun exposure. We recommend using the Dermaceutic K Ceutic SPF50, which is ideal for post-treatment use, as it hydrates and repairs the skin. We also recommend avoiding the use of exfoliating products 3 days post-treatment, to allow the skin to heal.
For optimal results, we recommend following a skincare routine alongside your treatments. Your practitioner can help tailor a routine to suit your needs. Consider adding a hydrating serum, like the Cosmedix Surge Hyaluronic Acid Booster, to boost the skin’s moisture levels. A hydrating moisturiser can also help soothe the skin, we recommend the Aspect Soothing Gel.
When can I expect to see results?
DermaFrac produces visible results following the initial recovery period and once any peeling or flaking has subsided. Over time, the treatment continues to stimulate collagen production and your results will continually improve.
How long do the results last?
DermaFrac treatment can provide long term benefits.
It is recommended to receive 6 to 8 treatments, every 4 to 6 weeks based on the condition and concern of your skin. DermaFrac is also an ideal treatment to do 1 to 2 weeks prior to any major event to freshen up, hydrate and rejuvenate the skin.
What are the risks and side effects of DermaFrac treatment?
All treatments have potential risk and side effects. There are some risks involved with DermaFrac treatment, the most common is to experience some redness and mild swelling after the treatment. Other side effects of DermaFrac treatment are rare and include infection, bruising and scabbing. These are more likely in patients with underlying medical conditions.
Dermafrac vs Microneedling
There are a few key differences between DermaFrac and Microneedling.
DermaFrac:
- Precision controlled handpiece uses vacuum to pull the skin into contact with hundreds of microneedles
- Microneedles infuse targeted serums directly into the epidermis
- Two depths of microneedle handpieces are available to create pathways for the infusion of serums into the skin
- Minimal redness experienced post-treatment which usually subsides quickly
Microneedling:
- Uses a hand-held device, with a stamping action on the skin
- Targets similar concerns to DermaFrac, however does not infuse serums into the skin
- Can feel uncomfortable, and may exacerbate more skin redness, which subsides within 24-48 hours
- Skin can appear drier post-treatment which usually resolves in 24 to 48 hours.
Both treatments are ideal for rejuvenating the skin, with DermaFrac being a good starting point and complements Microneedling due to it’s serum infusion capabilities.

DermaFrac has minimal downtime, with most patients able to immediately resume regular activities. There may be a slight feeling of redness and warmth, which typically subsides after a few hours.
Is DermaFrac pregnancy safe?
Dermafrac is generally not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
How many treatments will I need?
It is best done every 4 to 6 weeks for a series of 6 to 8 treatments based on the condition and concern of the skin. It can also be used 1 to 2 weeks before a social event to add a healthy, hydrated glow to your skin. Customised treatment plans cater to different needs and specific concerns. Whilst DermaFrac can address the appearance of particular skin concerns, nothing can permanently stop the skin’s ageing process. For that reason we recommend regular appointments to prolong your initial treatment results. Your practitioner will discuss a suitable treatment schedule for your skin concerns and aesthetic goals.
Is DermaFrac painful?
The microdermabrasion may feel abrasive on the skin, however, the DermaFrac micro-needling procedure is comfortable. It is common to experience skin sensitivity and dryness for a few days after the treatment. You can learn more on how to hydrate your skin after the procedure.
Can DermaFrac be combined with other treatments?
DermaFrac can be a stand-alone treatment, or combined with other treatments to meet your skin goals. DermaFrac can be combined with LED Therapy, wrinkle treatment, facial volume loss replacement treatment or Facial Peels. A personalised treatment plan, including any treatments to complement your DermaFrac, can be created after a consultation with one of our practitioners.
