What is Renuvion skin tightening?
Renuvion or J-Plasma is a skin-tightening treatment performed with liposuction. It uses helium gas, activated by radiofrequency, to create plasma energy. This energy is delivered to the fibroseptal network underneath the skin to maximise the soft tissue’s contraction and intends to improve the area’s contour and laxity.
Applying heat to the underlying skin tissue promotes neocollagenesis, which produces collagen following repair to the controlled injury to the soft tissue layer.
What are the benefits of Renuvion J-Plasma?
When Renuvion is performed in conjunction with your liposuction treatment, it encourages your skin to retract back tighter to the body area where fat has been removed.
- Encourages skin tightening
- May improve liposuction outcome by improving skin laxity
- May decreases loose skin following liposuction
- May increase the likelihood of being a suitable candidate for liposuction for those with some degree of skin laxity.
How does Renuvion skin tightening work?
Helium gas is activated by radiofrequency to create a helium plasma gas.
Immediately after your liposuction procedure, the Renuvion handpiece is inserted into the same entry points used for the liposuction cannula. As the handpiece is moved underneath the skin, a helium plasma gas is directed to the areas under your skin where collagen and elastin fibres are present. Radiofrequency energy activates the helium plasma, causing the soft tissue layer to contract and tighten. This action also causes a controlled wound and subsequent temporary inflammatory response, which encourages the body to create further collagen during the healing process.
Skin tightening can be seen immediately following the initial liposuction recovery time, with tightening results improving over the following months as more collagen is formed.
What areas can Renuvion treat?
Renuvion J-Plasma can be performed on all areas of the body where liposuction is performed. The most common areas include:
- Abdomen
- Neck
- Upper arms
- Thighs
- Back
- Flanks
Who is a suitable candidate for Renuvion or J-Plasma treatment?
Renuvion is for anyone looking for additional skin tightening in the areas they wish to have liposuction surgery. Especially, for those those who have noticed a reduction in their skin elasticity.
Those who are younger or those who have not had significant weight fluctuations are less likely to require Renuvion J-Plasma treatment.
Who is not a suitable candidate for the treatment?
Renuvion may provide some skin tightening, but it is unsuitable for those with significantly loose skin from large weight fluctuations or weight loss. Surgical removal of excess skin is required in this situation, e.g. abdominoplasty, body lift, or thigh lift.
As Renuvion uses radiofrequency energy, it is not suited to those who have implanted electrical devices, such as pacemakers.
Additionally, those with autoimmune diseases whose inflammatory responses are not normal will not benefit from Renuvion, as the treatment outcome is determined by a healthy and healing response to inflammation.
What happens during Renuvion skin tightening treatment?
The Renuvion handpiece device is inserted under the skin using the same entry points for the liposuction cannula. As the handpiece is drawn through the tissue, the plasma stream couples with and delivers energy to the closest structure and tissue under the skin.
Controlled heat to contract skin tissue is delivered under the skin in two ways:
- Direct contact with the helium plasma energy
- The flow of RF energy through the plasma and into the tissue
Renuvion is unique because it can heat the subdermal tissue to maximum contraction temperatures while minimising heat transference to the skin surface.
What results can I expect from Renuvion skin tightening?
Following your liposuction and Renuvion treatment you will notice some immediate tissue contraction around the treated area. Full results are seen 6 to 9 months after treatment as the body goes through the healing process and formation of new collagen occurs.
What does Renuvion J-Plasma recovery and aftercare look like?
Renuvion is performed as part of your liposuction procedure, making the aftercare identical to your liposuction aftercare. You will be prescribed pain medication to make you more comfortable following your liposuction and Renuvion. Most people resume work a week following their procedure, but this can be more or less depending on your line of work and how quickly you recover.
What are the risks and side effects associated with Renuvion J-Plasma?
Renuvion has risks and advantages, just like any surgical or cosmetic procedure.
Risks are included with every surgical or invasive procedure. You should talk to your doctor about them.
Some rare risks include burns, infection, change in skin colour, scarring, nerve damage, bleeding, and air or gas accumulation under the skin, in body cavities, and in blood vessels.
FAQs
How many Renuvion treatments do I need?
Renuvion is a once-off treatment performed while you are undergoing liposuction surgery. Follow-up Renuvion treatments are generally not indicated.
How long does J-Plasma last?
Whilst some initial tightening can be seen following your procedure, the full results are usually seen at least 6 to 9 months following your procedure as it takes that period for collagen to form.
The results from Renuvion skin tightening are permanent. However, your skin will continue to lose elasticity as you age.
How much does Renuvion treatment cost?
As Renuvion is performed with your liposuction, the pricing is determined by the areas you are having treated.
During your initial consultation, you will receive a tailored quote.
Can I combine Renuvion skin tightening with other treatments?
At Victorian Cosmetic Institute, we only perform Renuvion skin tightening together with liposuction to provide skin tightening along with your liposuction results. If you’re considering other skin treatments, we recommend waiting until you have completely healed from your liposuction and Renuvion procedure.
